Sunset Ferry Social Event

At 5:04 p.m. on October 17, 1989, Loma Prieta dropped a section of the Bay Bridge and cut the region's main artery for a month. Ferries filled the gap. That improvised workaround became policy: the state legislature created the Water Emergency Transportation Authority and directed it to run a consolidated regional ferry system and stand ready when a disaster disrupts bridge traffic in and out of San Francisco.

Join California Women in Homeland Security on Thursday, October 15th aboard the SF Bay Ferry (departing at 6:25 PM and returning 7:30 PM) to mark the 37th anniversary of Loma Prieta during Great ShakeOut week. We'll be on the water with the women who plan, exercise, and lead this region's response, looking at the infrastructure the last one built and what the next one will demand.
